Hi! I'm Candace.

How do I write an “About Me” as I’m just learning?
I’ve had inklings — and each of them were in nature. Times I was required to be nature.
To remember I always am, and to remind you, too.
I’m a mother to two children who summon butterflies and measure stars, and I am so deeply grateful for their wisdom.
SABO is for them, but it is also for me.
The happiness, safety, and flourishing creativity of the mother is part of mothering — maybe the most important part.
I started SABO as a space to nurture that in each of us, for the community of Santa Fe whose nature has embraced me, body and spirit.
I lived most of my life in Wimberley, Texas — in a valley dotted with clear creeks and run through by a river that never lets us forget Mother Nature, for better or worse. It’s one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
After whelping my two pups, I made art.
Old jewelry reconfigured and unmade into something that made sense to my brain and felt at home on the body — coral and shells mounted on metallic clay, formed with fingerprints, antique watches with the guts removed and replaced with delicate relics. Crystals arranged inside long-darkened fixtures, relit.
In 2017, I opened a store on the Wimberley Square called Unknowable You — tucked into the first floor of an old carriage house at the foot of a signal tree bent by Indigenous peoples centuries ago to indicate the creek just below. Unknowable You was just that — a space steeped in living history, at play with mystery. You couldn’t quite put your finger on it, though you were invited to touch everything.
As the pandemic closed some things and opened others, the shop next door — Ceremony Botanical — became available. Me and three others assumed ownership of this storied building and built upon the previous owner’s vision to nurture a thriving hub of plant design, home goods, body care, and community support. With care, Ceremony expanded, spilling out onto the sidewalk, absorbing Unknowable You.
Ceremony remains a ripe and vibrant space, but life asked me to set up stakes elsewhere.

SABO Stands For
Sage Botanicals — and "Sage" holds many meanings for me.
From wisdom to smoke. For sensing rain by bursting into bloom.
For cleansing stagnancy.
For uniting earth and ether.
For honoring ancestors.
Sage also carries a responsibility — to the Indigenous people who understand the medicine.
SABO’s offerings will always be sourced responsibly, with priority to Indigenous-led or Indigenous-serving makers.
And Now, Here
I find myself in Santa Fe, fumbling for my keys — just like everywhere else in my life — only this time, for the first time, the doors they unlock are already open to me.
I trust I am on the right path.
And I am so honored you’ve chosen to walk a little of it with me.
I believe in supporting small creators.
I believe in investing in individuals whose bottom line is bettering lives and loving the planet.
I believe in listening.
I believe in learning.
